Eight people, including three children, have been killed in Ukraine following a series of Russian military strikes, according to local officials. The fatalities highlight the ongoing toll of the conflict on civilian populations living in the paths of regular aerial bombardments.
The details of the casualties were confirmed by regional authorities, according to reporting by international wire services. Among the dead are a six-year-old girl and two boys, aged 11 and 17.
These three young victims were among six people killed during a strike on a village located near the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih. It is understood that the village was directly impacted during the bombardment, though the names of the village and the victims have not been widely released.
Information regarding the remaining two casualties of the eight reported dead, including where they were killed and the specific circumstances of their deaths, has not yet been detailed by Ukrainian authorities. It also remains unconfirmed what types of weapons were deployed in this latest round of attacks, or how many other residents may have suffered injuries.
Kryvyi Rih and its surrounding territories have been subjected to repeated aerial bombardments throughout the war. Local emergency services are understood to be continuing their operations at the affected sites, working to clear debris and assist displaced residents.
Observers will watch for updates from regional emergency services and Ukrainian state officials as they work to identify all of the victims and assess the full extent of the physical damage caused by the strikes.
