Police investigate fatal caravan park fire in Campbellfield
A crime scene has been established at a Campbellfield caravan park after a person died in an early morning fire.
Victoria Police have established a crime scene at a caravan park in Melbourne's north following a fatal fire early on Thursday morning.
Emergency services were called to the property in Campbellfield after reports of a blaze. According to initial wire reports, firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, but one person was subsequently located deceased inside the caravan.
The identity of the victim has not yet been confirmed by emergency services, and police have not released details regarding their age or gender.
Arson chemists and detectives from the pathology and forensic units are expected to inspect the scene to determine the exact cause of the blaze, which remains unexplained at this early stage.
The caravan park, located in the industrial northern suburb of Campbellfield, remains active, though police have cordoned off the immediate vicinity of the destroyed structure. It is currently unknown how many other residents were nearby when the fire broke out, or whether any neighbouring caravans sustained damage during the incident.
Police officers have begun door-knocking other residents in the caravan park to gather witness statements. Anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the early hours of Thursday morning is being urged to contact local authorities.
As is standard practice with all fatal fires, a formal report will be prepared for the coroner to determine the cause of death.
Observers will be watching for the release of the victim's identity and the initial findings of the forensic investigation into how the fire started.
This report draws on original reporting by Wire report.

We take no government money, run no paywall, and answer to nobody in Spring Street. That independence is paid for by a small number of readers, not the many who benefit from it. If just one in a hundred of today's readers gave $8 a month, our Victorian politics coverage would be funded for the year.
