Perth Mint unveils world record holding giant gold bar
The Perth Mint has produced a record breaking gold bar weighing more than 520 kilograms and refined to extreme purity.
The Perth Mint has officially unveiled the largest gold bar in the world, setting a new global benchmark for precious metal refining. According to reporting by wire services, the massive specimen represents an unprecedented accomplishment in industrial casting and manufacturing within Western Australia.
The record-breaking gold bar weighs exactly 521.2 kilograms. In addition to its historic scale, representatives from the facility confirmed that the asset has been refined to an exceptionally high standard, achieving a purity level of 99.999 per cent.
At this stage, several key details surrounding the creation of the record-breaking bar remain unconfirmed. The Perth Mint has not yet publicly declared the estimated monetary value of the gold, nor have they released the specific physical dimensions, such as the height, length and width of the casting.
Furthermore, it remains unclear how long the refining process took to complete, or what specific technical challenges the mint faced in cooling such a large volume of molten precious metal without causing structural defects. While the Perth Mint is globally recognised for its refining capacity and historically significant coin production, a casting of this scale is highly unusual.
Local industry experts expect the creation will draw significant international attention to Western Australia's refining sector, which processes the vast majority of gold mined across the country. It is not yet clear whether the bar was commissioned by a private buyer or if it will remain in the possession of the mint.
