Man arrested after young woman found dead in Melbourne flats
A 31-year-old man has handed himself in to Victoria Police following the death of a young woman in Melbourne.
Victoria Police have arrested a 31-year-old Carlton man following the death of a 21-year-old woman in Melbourne over the weekend. According to wire reports, the man handed himself in to authorities following the discovery of the woman's body.
The investigation commenced after the young woman was found deceased inside a block of flats. At this stage of the inquiry, police have not publicly released the exact address of the apartment building or the specific Melbourne suburb where the incident occurred, nor have they detailed when the body was first discovered.
Many details surrounding the death remain unconfirmed. Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the woman's death, nor have they indicated the nature of the relationship, if any, between the 21-year-old victim and the 31-year-old Carlton man who is currently in police custody.
It is also unclear whether any formal charges have been laid against the man, or when he is expected to appear before a magistrate. Victoria Police have not released the identities of either the deceased woman or the arrested man, which is common in the initial hours of a major investigation.
Detectives are continuing to work to establish the timeline of events leading up to the tragedy. Members of the public with any information or footage from the area over the weekend are likely to be urged to contact police as the investigation proceeds.
Watch for updates from Victoria Police regarding whether the Carlton man is formally charged in connection with the woman's death.
